Nothing

Today is a day of nothing. I have nothing to do today until a halloween party at 9pm tonight.

In fact, I slept 11 hours last night. I was asleep by 11 and didn't wake up again until 10 this morning. I, seriously, have never done that in my entire life unless I was sick. Seriously. I didn't know it was possible. But I guess, when you're tired enough, it is.

This is the first day in as long as I can remember that I've had nothing to do. I don't have work, don't have class, don't have any assignments that are crucial to complete today.

I have a few errands to run, but they really aren't necessary. I may get an early start on some Christmas presents--we know from this post that I enjoy getting my Christmas shopping done by Thanksgiving. But, then again, it's 2pm and I'm still in my PJs so...we'll see.

Can you believe that in less than 2 weeks this blog will be one year old? Crazy!

Can you believe that tomorrow is mine and B's anniversary? Our big plan for the day is to purchase a kitchen table. I know, we need to stop--we're just two party animals.

Happy Halloween!

Natural Halloween Decor

Today I'm taking part in Writer's Workshop hosted by Mama Kat's Losin' It. I may or may not be trying really hard to win myself a kickin' video camera this week.

Around here, we don't do much decorating for Halloween. We never get any trick-or-treaters unless they are related to us, and those who are related to us aren't allowed to travel around our tiny little, one-lane road neighborhood because it's honestly not that safe anymore. So, really, there's no point in decorating. We'll go all out for Christmas because we have an annual Christmas party, but Halloween? Nope.

We put a couple fake pumpkins on the porch, a scarecrow or two, and we're done...most years. But, this year, we have an addition!

This is one of about 10 spiderwebs on three bushes. Apparently, we made friends with some spiders recently and they decided to halloween-up the place for us! In the morning, when it's cold and dewey, the spiderwebs glisten and they are absolutely creepy...and it looks like we did it on purpose.

So this, of course, if my favorite piece of home decor. Thanks, Charlotte. That's "some web."

The Power Ranger that Wasn't

This week I'm participating in Wonderful Wednesdays hosted by Seven Clown Circus.

Power Rangers were the shit when I was growing up. Le shit. Sorry, but there is just no other way to put it. Everyone knew everyone in power rangers. We acted in out in pretend play. You know you loved it, too.

But, I never really played by the same rules as everyone else. All the other girls loved Kimberly--they wanted to play Kimberly, dress like Kimberly, and kick ass like Kimberly. Me? I loved the yellow ranger. I wanted to kick ass like Trini Kwan.

However, since I was seemingly the only girl who wanted to be the Yellow Ranger, it was impossible to find a yellow ranger costume. So I ended up being something else for halloween. I don't even remotely remember what that was.

That Christmas, I was still upset about my yellow ranger costume failure. So I gave in--or rather, my mom gave in for me--and went to the pink side. My mom bought me a pink ranger costume for Christmas, and I wore that thing alllll day. The gloves made kungfu sounds! And if you put them together, they made the "morphing" sound! I was in heaven! And I didn't care one bit that I was wearing a costume on Christmas. I think Jesus understood.

I still have faith in the Yellow Ranger. I will always love Trini the most.

That's right, Bekah. I said it. :D

Pumpkin Cake

I found this recipe probably in family circle as well, but I honestly don't remember. If doesn't matter, because other than the general idea I completely ignored the recipe and did whatever I felt like doing.

Like using box mix for Chocolate Fudge Cake instead of making my own blend of pumpkin cake. And using a smaller Pyrex baking bowl than they suggested (who knew those bowls we always mix in were actually baking bowls??). It turned out okay for the presentation, but the cake itself is amazingly delicious! So here it goes:

When you bake in a pyrex bowl, this is what it comes out like.

You have to use the same size bowl to make each one, and I baked them for 45 minutes each. Both halves.

And then you have to level the tops of each so that they meet closely when placed on top of each other.

Mix yellow and red with vanilla icing to make orange, and use that in between the halves to keep them together and on the outer edge to smooth it.

Then ice the rest of it, but I suggest doing one section at a time because the icing gets funky. Cut a hole in the top of the cake for the "stem". Cover the icing with reese pieces (it said M&Ms but they don't have an abundance of yellow and orange in them) in the pattern you want and put some kind of chocolate bar in the top hole for the stem.

Voila!

It worked well until I went to move it. Then things started to move. But it was a good thought. Next time I'd probably use a bigger bowl to make it easier, decorate on the presentation dish instead of the wire rack, and more red in my icing. But it's still at least kind of cute :)

Spider cupcakes on Saturday I think!

Husband 1.0

My mom sent me this email and I laughed. A lot. Cute, enjoy!

Letter to Tech Support:

Title: INSTALLING HUSBAND 1.0

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0. In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs such as NBA 5.0, NFL 3.0 and Golf Clubs 4.1. Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system.

Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed,
Desperate.

Response from Tech Support:

DEAR DESPERATE,

First, keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system. Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme.html, try to download Tears 6.2, and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update.

If those applications work as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5. However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0, or Beer 6.1. Please note that Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will download the Farting and Snoring Loudly Beta. Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.)

In addition, please do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0- program. This is an unsupported application and will crash Husband 1.0. In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly.. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend Cooking 3.0 and Hot Lingerie 7.7.

Good Luck!

Bye Bye, Wisdoms!

[Psst. There's an award at the end of this :) ]

'Tis true! I had all four of my wisdom teeth cut out this morning. I honestly feel quite fine, but the numbness on the inside of my mouth is just now starting to where off, so I'm sure my opinion will change before two long. The numbness on the outside of my face is still there. On one side of my face it's numb all the way to my temple and over a bit into my hairline...I find that odd haha.

They gave me the "good drugs," but I learned the last time I had knee surgery (erm, fall of 2007 I think?) that I do not do well on these things. They make me pretty sick. So by the end of tomorrow I'll probably be done taking them--so far, I've only had one!

And just for the record, I should say, that laughing gas...really only makes you laugh when your 6. When your an adult, all you want to say is "there's nothing funny here..." it also seemed a bit unnecessary, since they immediately IVed me and used IV drugs to put me out anyway?? Eh, it's all good. I'm not as swollen, at least right now, as I thought I'd be. I may be worse tomorrow, but today I pretty much look normal on the outside. I'll be back to my normal self completely soon and I'm already bored so...maybe my house will be cleaned before i go back to work and class? Ha!

Anyway, Kreativ Blogger!

I was given this award this week by Hannah at That [Officer's] Wife AND Jess at Jesstagirl and her Officer! These are both wonderful bloggy-ladies and I'm lucky to have found them! Thanks girls!

Here are the rules:

1.) Thank the person who gave this to you!
2.) Copy the logo and place it in your blog!
3.) Link the person who nominated you!
4.) Name 7 things about yourself that no one would really know.
5.) Nominate 7 Kreativ Bloggers.
6.) Post links to the 7 blogs you nominate.
7.) Leave a comment on each of the blogs letting them know you nominated them!

1. I will go to O'Charleys and order a house salad and a "couple rolls with butter" to go. It's amazing, and costs less than Wendy's.
2. I have an addiction to shopping for dogs on petfinder. We can't get one now, and for at least a year after the wedding and maybe even longer depending on where we end up living, but I stinking LOVE looking for dogs. And not puppies, rescues. I would take Ava home in a second.
3. I get a lot of compliments on my engagement ring. It really does sparkle, and I love it. But everytime someone says "I LOVE your ring!" I take it as a compliment in our relationship rather than the ring and I smile just thinking about B.
4. I have to find a halloween costume for this year still. We are allowed to dress up at work if you work that day. If I don't, I was invited to two parties--I love costumes, but I don't find any want to dress up on one of those slutty costumes all the women seem to find amazing these days. I don't care who you ask, Raggedy Ann never wore a belly shirt.
5. I am thoroughly addicted to winter hats. I have a MILLION of them. I wear them maybe 10 times total, because they give me hat hair. But I love them and I continue to buy them.
6. I love art. I considered going to school for art education for a long time. Until my common sense laughed in my face and said "yea, good luck finding a job."
7. Katherine Heigl is no longer on my "ew" list, which she joined after bitching for more money on Grey's. She was relieved from her position on the "ew" list when she adopted a special needs baby. Yay Naleigh!

The nominees are:
jlc from French Kiss
Kat at Mama Kat's Losin It
New Girl at New Girl on Post
d.a.r. at Just Another Day
hilary at High Heels & Combat Boots
Jessi at Welcome to the Zoo
Lindsay at And we'll just laugh along the way...

Enjoy Ladies!

Where the Crap is that Parking Lot??

The walk was amazing. We had 13 people signed up. We had 10 and two kids show up. More than last year, but not as many as we were expecting.

Last years walk was 61,000 people strong. I'd like to take the opportunity to mention that the entire population of the city we will be moving too is 53,000. Oh Wyoming! The numbers haven't come in yet from this years walk!

My mom decided she was joining us, and that was fantastic! She was nervous she wouldn't be able to make it all 5 miles, especially with B's mom there and her wanting to make a "good impression" to all people not related to us. But she did fine--better than me, actually. Sad, and so freakin' true. Would have been much better if it weren't 40 degrees out and we hadn't parked a mile away this year. Ha! But downtown at sunrise is absolutely gorgeous, so it was fantastic photo-taking time!

A few photos:
Me and Mom

Wall of people for as far as you could see.

The group.

View of the finish-area from the other side of the river.

Awesome little dog. So many people brought their pets. They were cute, but it makes me wonder if their owners can read "no pets of bicycles." We did wonder about rollerblades, though.

The bottom of a ferrywheel, which for whatever reason is suspended in the air.

Then we came home and cleaned out the storage closet and threw out TONS of stuff. So exciting!

And then we woke up on Monday and couldn't move. But it was totally worth it :)

Making Strides for Mom!

October, as we all know from the obsessive amount of pink absolutely everywhere, is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 13% of all women, 1 in 8, will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. About 42,000 women will die this year from breast cancer.

My mother beat the odds.

She was diagnosed last summer, and has made it through chemo and radiation and has come out cancer-free! Along with her, my grandmother, stepmother, aunt, and my mother's best friend have all fought the disease and all but one (my aunt) won the fight!

So last year we decided we would take part in the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk! The walk is 5 miles and a fabulous way to raise money for research. Last year there were 60,000+ walkers just in our city!

You can find my fundraising page at the ACS website if you'd like to know more about why I'm walking, donate, or even join a walk near you! We walk as a team as well, and have 13 people signed up, but will have some stragglers with us that day as well!

When many people band together for results, fantastic results come out of it!

The Cactus Cuties

These tiny little girls are absolutely amazing! They are only 6, 7 and 8 years old!
